So, I had to set up a scenario... My friend Maddie and I want to bake cupcakes for our YouthGroup. Now, this is a fairly simple job… if you’re using cake mix. We decided to do everything from scratch. It will take me three hours to deal with the dry ingredients, wet ingredients and the overall baking process. It’ll take two hours for Maddie to decorate and serve the cupcakes. How long will it take for both of us to finish our parts? The rational equation here would be 1/3+1/2=1/x. 1/3 represents my portion. 1/2 represents Maddie’s portion. The time it will take to finish the cupcakes is shown with 1/x.

After solving, I got 6/5, or 1.2. How many hours is that? It can't by 1.2 hours; it wouldn't make sense.
