Which of the following is a displacement? a. 5 m/s c. -0.7 m/s2 b. 10 ft d. 3 blocks east

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

I think B and D. Because B indicates a distance, and also D indicates a distance

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can only have one answer.

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

ok! Then I think it is B, namely 10ft

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

since feet is an unit of measure of distance

Let's get it straight. Displacement is a vector quantity. It must have a direction and a magnitude. The best answer here is the one with a magnitude and a direction. d) isn't a very good choice because "blocks" are not of constant magnitude, but it is the best choice to select. c) is an acceleration and the other choices are scalar quantities.
