the number 12 is increased by 4. three-fourths of this number is then decreased from 20. what is result? I'm supposed to write out the equation I'm confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12 + 4 20 - 3/4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12+4= 16 3/4 of 16 is 12 20-12=8 so 8 i think

OpenStudy (aripotta):

ok so let's do this bit by bit. "the number 12 is increased by 4" is obviously 12 + 4. "three-fourths of this number" so 3/4(12 + 4). "is then decreased from 20" so 20 - 3/4(12 + 4)

make sense?
