Why was Northern Italy a natural birthplace for the Renaissance? And explain what the Renaissance was.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Italy hosted great minds like Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Raphael. The location (Italy) made it quite easy for the ideas of these minds (and others) to spread rapidly throughout Europe (this is because of the waterways). The Renaissance was a time of philosophical and educational rebirth. Art began to change from the medieval "one dimensional without detail" to paintings that consisted of both dimension, detail, and individuality. The Greco-Roman ideals also came flooding back, being used for education and philosophical thought. Hope this helps :)
