Use synthetic division and the Remainder Theorem to find P(–2) if P(x) = x4 + 2x3 – 8x2 – 18x – 9. -4 -6 -5 none of these

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

I can't see why you need synthetic division. If you use the remainder theorem \[P(-2) = (-2)^4 + 3(-2)^3 - 8(-2)^2 - 18(-2) - 9\] if you evaluate the equation, you'll have the solution.
