I abuse commas to the fullest as I know the uses of it, and my teacher knows it. She makes us write a story under 5 sentences about a certain topic or scene. It must contain 8+ vocab words and 5+ extra ones for extra credit. I am a very creative writer so I like to make my stories long and descriptive, so I use commas like an extension for these sentences, adding pauses here and there.

A non-essential clause is what some like to call the "noise" inside of a sentence, kind-of like the distraction from the subject and object. Hence the term "non-essential".
