Which sentence uses an adjective with an emphatic connotation?

Jim was ecstatic to see Katie. Jim was pleased to see Katie. Jim was happy to see Katie. Jim was glad to see Katie.

the first one.

Can you explain?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you try to figure out which sentence has the stronger emphasis on the adjective, it is the first one... it is kinda hard not to emphasis the word "extatic" but "glad", "pleased" and "happy" can easily be said without a strong emphasis... u see?
