are u sure?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[a \left( b+c \right)=a*b+a*c\]

OpenStudy (rainbow_dashie):

I am not so sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a=5 b=8 c=7 x=?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First, distribute 5 into the parenthesis. @rainbow_dashie

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5 x 8. And 5 x 7. Then add them together.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That gives you your left side of the equal sign.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5 times x = 5x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The multiply 5 x 7.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then subtract the value of the left side by that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then divide the left side by 5x. And, C is incorrect.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no need to distribute, you can simply say x=8 by comparison with a(b+c)=a*b+a*c you can easily say x=8
