help how do i do this ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm only a freshmen and the math for college readiness is really hard I'm not asking for answers just help on how to solve

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hey he asked for number of gallons right? let's take them as variables , lets say first car took x gallons and second took y gallons. okay?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so we have x and y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm so can you form equations now based on the info given?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

uh kinda . you want me to plug in the numbers right ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

see he said, total gas consumption is 65. now this 65 is used by two cars right? although we don't how much particularly each car used. so can we say number of gallons used by first + num of gallons used by second = 65 gallons?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so our first car took x gallons and second took y gallons as per our first understanding right? then x + y = 65 this is our first equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right?, did you get it, if not ask me , I'll clarify, it's simple thing you will understand if i tell one more.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i understand what you're doing but whats the next step ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes we need to solve for x and y correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm remember this thing always NUMBER OF EQUATIONS TO SOLVE SHOULD BE EQUAL OR GREATER THAN THE NUMBER OF VARIABLES to get perfect values for variables.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

here we have two variables, so number of equations must be two or more. so we need to form another equation. that will be come from the miles relation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they went for a combined total of 2450 miles right? now we already said, first took x gallons and second y gallons. now if first took only 1gallon then how much distance it would've travelled tell me?
