Can someone please help me understand how to get the y-intercept and x-intercept of 3x+y=7

OpenStudy (precal):

To find them sub x=0 and solve for y then sub y=0 and solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y-intercept is 7 ?

OpenStudy (mchilds15):

What..... Why wouldn't they just convert the equation to y=mx+b ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and x-intercept is 2.333333

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@precal

OpenStudy (precal):

yes they could do that but that is not necessary

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but would it be 7 or -7? thats the part that confuses me the most

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Mchilds15 ? do you know?
