Alkanes are named according to the number of _________atoms, and adding a _________to the name. a. carbon, suffix c. hydrogen, suffix b. hydrogen, prefix d. carbon, prefix

OpenStudy (jordanloveangel):

alright well honestly I think it's A. The general formula of an alkane is CnH2n+2, n is the number of carbons is used to determine the number of hydrogen atoms. Example n=5, so H=(2(5) +2)=12. An example of an alkane is methane. The -ane is definitely a suffix since it is added to the back of meth.
