In rational functions, what does it mean if a function is continuous or not?

hope this helps

So, a continuous function would be one where you put something in for y and get something else for x? I'm still kind of confused.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[f(x)=-1\div(x-2)^{2}\] I need to know wether this is continuous or not.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it might be continuous but im not entirely sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh ok. Thanks :)

OpenStudy (freckles):

it is continuous at every number except when the number x on bottom makes the entire denominator 0. So it is continuous everywhere except when x-2=0

OpenStudy (freckles):

solve that equation
