Let's say that one female author enjoys writing about families. She writes about a couple with a relatively large family. The couple has a certain number of children C, grandchildren G, and great-grandchildren g. The following equations relate the numbers of each offspring: C + g = G - 1 C + G + g = 25 C + G = g x 4 If g = 5, how many grandchildren G does the couple have?

OpenStudy (mchilds15):

Hm... Is this a multiple choice question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes! the choices are 13, 7, 11, and 5

OpenStudy (mchilds15):

If i were you, i'd use the choices one at a time and plug them into an equation. It's a long process, but you eventually get it. So lets use 13. r=5 and G=13. Plug them in and if it doesn't fit in one of the equations, try the next number. I'm sorry, I'm techniquely not aloud to just give you the answer but i can "work you through it"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes lol i wasnt really wanting the answer actually i just didnt know how to do it but im gonna try it now!!

OpenStudy (mchilds15):

*g=5 and G=13 Stupid typo Let me know if you get stuck!
