@DanJS

OpenStudy (danjs):

k

OpenStudy (danjs):

OpenStudy (danjs):

That is the region bounded by the Y-axis and the curve

OpenStudy (danjs):

you want that area to be divided in half by a vertical line at x=a

OpenStudy (danjs):

a will be between -1, and 0

OpenStudy (danjs):

Just as a reference, a reasonable answer seems to be near around x = -0.3 maybe

OpenStudy (danjs):

what integral would you use to find the total area of that region?

OpenStudy (wade123):

integral?

OpenStudy (danjs):

you finished the first prob?

OpenStudy (wade123):

i got -.5 for the first one

OpenStudy (danjs):

What you could do, is first find the area of the bounded region between x=-1 and x=0 and the x axis. That will give you half of the total area, which is what you need. Then inegrate over x=-1 to x=a of the region, which should equal half of that area

OpenStudy (danjs):

and you can solve for what a should be

OpenStudy (danjs):

i dont think it will be -0.5, more towards -0.7 or so

OpenStudy (wade123):

-.8?

OpenStudy (danjs):

i got a = about -0.37

OpenStudy (danjs):

seems about right, you want me to type out what i did?

OpenStudy (danjs):

open a new fresh thread, and i will type in the way i did it

OpenStudy (wade123):

okay(:
