I heard from a friend that you could get community hours from helping on OS? Is that true or nah?

Yes - there are projects you can do on OpenStudy that count as Community Hours. I've been assigned to a task similar to these. Ambassadors perform "Voluntary" contributions to OpenStudy, but a portion of their actions fall under Community Service - as we all are interns.
