A solid faces that consist of 1 pentagon 5 congruent equilateral triangles and 5 congruent squares. The solid has 11 vertices. How many edges does this solid have?

OpenStudy (dan815):

hmm

OpenStudy (dan815):

are u given a formula linking face edges and vertices

OpenStudy (dan815):

for 11 vertices there a total of 11 Choose 2 ways of possible orientations of lines

OpenStudy (dan815):

a pentagon has 5 sides triangle has 3, u have5 of those 5*3 and 5*4 a total of 20+15+5 = 40sides

OpenStudy (dan815):

not these sides are shared between each other and all together have only 11 vertices

OpenStudy (dan815):

lets see okay lets tart with the pentagon 5 edges there now lets add 5triangles to to 5 of those edges are all used for the 5 triangles and the upper lines for the triangles are shares between each triangle too so 6 unique extra lines a total of 5 + 5 verticles so far..
