I've been given the number 1.49866667. How do I round it off to 2 decimal places?

OpenStudy (danjs):

look at the third decimal, if it is 5 to 9, round up to the next second decimal place, 0 to 4, round down

OpenStudy (danjs):

1.498 8 is in the 5 to 9 range, move the 49 to 50

OpenStudy (danjs):

and chop the rest off

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so, what if I wanted to chop that 8 off? What would it be then?

OpenStudy (danjs):

if the 8, were a number between 0 and 4, then the rounded number would be 1.49

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. so that's two decimal places, right?

OpenStudy (danjs):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay. Good. Now what puzzles me is: How do I round off 1.498 to 2 d.p? :/

OpenStudy (danjs):

look at the 3rd d.p it is 8, which is a 5,6,7,8, or 9 Closer to 1.50

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhhhh. Got it. THANK YOU!

OpenStudy (danjs):

welcome
