Which of the following statements is true? Biodiversity provides additional resources that raise the carrying capacity of an ecosystem. Biodiversity increases an ecosystem’s ability to withstand changes. Biodiversity makes an ecosystem more difficult to destroy. Biodiversity provides additional sources of food for the weakest organisms in an ecosystem.

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Well, lets take a peak at the definition of biodiversity really quick. "Biodiversity is the degree of variation of life. It is a measure of the variety of organisms present in different ecosystems. This can refer to genetic variation, ecosystem variation, or species variation (number of species) within an area, biome, or planet." - Wiki So, we can single out that "biodiversity gives additional resources." Which is not true. For example, a certain type of fish will migrate toward a place with resources, like algae, that they may consume. Algae will not migrate toward fish to be eaten. Makes sense? So we can zero out a few. Lets take a look at carrying capacity. "The carrying capacity of a biological species in an environment is the maximum population size of the species that the environment can sustain indefinitely, given the food, habitat, water and other necessities available in the environment." - Wiki So, if we have a diverse population of animals; like rabbits, worms, birds, prey v. predator, then the population of certain animals can increase. For example, if we have a diverse population of the rabbit family, then the wolf population will increase because wolf's feed on rabbits.
