F(-5,1) D(X=1) write the equation for the parabola

OpenStudy (misty1212):

F, D?

OpenStudy (misty1212):

HI do you now what F and D mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

focus and vertex

OpenStudy (misty1212):

ok i see then we can do it quick if you know what it looks like the parabola i mean

OpenStudy (misty1212):

without that it is very hard do you know what it looks like when you graph it?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

i think you mean "directrix" for D

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

the focus point and directrix are equal distance from the vertex

OpenStudy (misty1212):

probably it takes half a minute if you know what it looks like otherwise it take for frickin ever

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

midpoint between -5 and 1 is -2 therefore vertex is at (-2,1) distance = 3 (this is denoted as p) equation: \[x = \frac{1}{4p}(y-k)^2 + h\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thanks

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

:)
