Last year, the school library had a total of x books. Over the summer, the library acquired another 48 books and now has a total of 3,011 books. Which equation could be used to find x, the number of books the library had last year? A. x + 48 = 3,011 B. 48x = 3,011 C. 3,011 + x = 48 D. x - 48 = 3,011

What do you think?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

medal and fan for best answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

IDK

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

Well you know that the total is 3,011, so whatever the equation may be, it must have a =3,011. you also know that there are now 48 more books, so a +48 would be ideal.

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

What do you think the answer is now?

Last year, the school library had a total of x books. Over the summer, the library acquired another 48 books and now has a total of 3,011 books. Which equation could be used to find x, the number of books the library had last year? They started with x They added 48 Came up with a total of 3,011 Does any of the answers look similar to what I said?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 second @ShadowLegendX let me answer @dtan5457

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

Ok. Let me know when you got your answer

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

Hmm, that's pretty close, but why you would SUBTRACT 48?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I mean B

OpenStudy (anonymous):

srry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its B for sure B

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

"B. 48x = 3,011" No. lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OOOOOOOO lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its A

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

The = 3,011 is correct. But why would you multiply or subtract 48?

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

Yes, it's A.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yay!

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

Good job lol, word problems can be tricky sometimes..but there is no mathematical work to be done here. just look closely next time :)
