People came into contact with other groups of people. Sometimes this contact was 'voluntary' as in the case of Trade, sometimes it was necessitated by natural disaster causing Migration of groups of people, and sometimes it was forced through Warfare. However, all of these methods led to people interacting with groups of people that they may not have had any contact with before.
