OpenStudy (abhisar):

First calculate the time of flight.

OpenStudy (daniellelovee):

v=d/t so im cofused because you don't have time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, that is why i am confused too! so @Abhisar how do we do that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

find the time? with the information given in this problem?

OpenStudy (abhisar):

For calculating the time of flight you can use the equation S=ut+1/2at^2 Since the ball was kicked horizontally, the vertical component of velocity will be 0. So you can take u=0, s= height from the level ground.

heyy

OpenStudy (daniellelovee):

@lovinbabe mathway is an excellent website but is not for word problems

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay! so 27=0t+1/2at^2 27=1/2at^2 54=at^2 ? @Abhisar ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okkkk

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Height is 1.8 and not 27, find the value of t. After that you can use it to find the initial horizontal speed of football.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh okay so we get this? 1.8=1/2at^2 3.6=at^2 ? ? not sure what to do from here?

OpenStudy (abhisar):

put the value of a and find t. (a is acceleration due to gravity, take it as 10m/s^2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay:) so 3.6/10=t^2 .36=t^2 t=0.6 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Abhisar ? is that correct? if so, what happens from there?

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Yep, now finally use this t too find the horizontal speed. You can again use the same equation but this time s will be 27 m and t = 0.6. find the value of u this time and that will be your answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahh okie! so 27=u(0.6) + 1/2(10)(0.6)^2 27=0.6u + 1.8 25.2=0.6u u=42 is that correct? :)

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Yes it's correct (if your calculation is correct :P)

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Yes...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha okie thanks so much!! so this is done then? :O

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you @Abhisar :)
