Catholicism was mainly put on the back burner in Elizabethan England. The reason for this is that Elizabeth's father, Henry VIII, denounced papal authority in the church and declared himself the leader of the church. He also (because of Anne Boleyn) turned England Protestant. Queen Elizabeth held to the Protestant belief as well. Yet she made England a free place for religion. Meaning that Catholics, nor Protestants would be persecuted for practicing their beliefs.
