Sulfur trioxide is a covalent compound. Which is the chemical formula for sulfur trioxide? A. (SO)3 B. S3O3 C. SO3 D. S3O

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

Sulfur DIoxide means per one sulfur atom, you would have 2 oxygen atoms because "DI" means 2. Sulfur dioxide is written as SO2 Like Carbon DIoxide is written as CO2 because for one carbon atom, there are 2 oxygen atoms. Sulfure TRIoxide means per one sulfur atom you would have 3 oxygen atoms because "TRI" means 3. So what do you think sulfur trioxide would be?

Would it be S3O?

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

you have the formula a bit jumbled up! Try again :) Sulfur dioxide SO2 Carbon dioxide CO2 Sulfur trioxide ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

SO2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I mean SO3

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

yyess! :) Excellent work !

Thanks so much! :)
