6. Write the balanced net ionic equation for each reaction: a. Na3PO4(aq) + FeCl3(aq)  NaCl(aq) + FePO4(s) b. (NH4)2S(aq) + Co(NO3)2(aq)  CoS(s) + NH4NO3(aq)

OpenStudy (nechirwan):

FeCl3 (aq) + Na3PO4 (aq) ---> FePO4 (s) + 3 NaCl (aq) (Nh4)2S(aq) +Co(No3)2(aq) = CoS(s) + 2 Nh4No3(aq)

OpenStudy (jfraser):

these reactions are balanced, but they are not (yet) the \(net\) ionic reactions. Each reaction produces a precipitate from a pair of ions, and two ions remain behind in aqueous solution. You need to cross out and cancel those ions that don't take part in the precipitation, the spectator ions.
