How do I set up a hypothesis?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@tjfalsey First you need to have an observation of something you want described.

@tjfalsey Say you come home and your windows are broken (Observation). Why? Now you think of a reason, and a way to find out if the reason is correct (hypothesis). So, let's say I think some one threw rocks through my window. How do I test for this? Hypothesis: If a individual threw something through my windows, then I will find the thrown object in the house. Null hypothesis: If there are no objects that are foreign to my house, a individual did not throw something through my windows.
