Sketch a graph of a quadratic function: y = ax^2 + bx +c where a>0, b^2-4ac<0

OpenStudy (freckles):

a>0 means the parabola will be opened up a<0 means the parabola will be opened down b^2-4ac=0 means you will have one x-itnercept b^2-4ac>0 means you will have two x-intercepts b^2-4ac<0 means you will have no x-intercepts

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Gotcha! So it will open up and there are no x-intercepts so how will i graph that on a general graph?

OpenStudy (freckles):

you would graph a parabola that is open up and does not go through the x-axis

OpenStudy (freckles):

so you know that the vertex is somewhere above the x-axis

OpenStudy (freckles):

just draw the graph somewhere that fits the information given

OpenStudy (freckles):

also my notifications aren't working properly

OpenStudy (freckles):

sounds good no-x intercepts and open up great job
