Linear Algebra 8 Online
OpenStudy (anonymous):

i totally forgot how to do this help? Solve, using linear combination. 3x + y = 4 2x + y = 4

OpenStudy (freckles):

To setup for elimination you can multiply one (or both ) of the equations by a number such that when you add the equations together a variable is eliminated.

OpenStudy (freckles):

That is, if I were you I would multiply equation (2) by -1 then add the equations together. You will see a variable get eliminated and you will able to solve for the other.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have already figured it out thank you though

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

Since the right sides of your equation are equal each other, we can write: 3x+y=2x+y groupink like terms, I get: x=0

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

oops..grouping like terms...

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

Then please try to substitute x=0, into the first equation, and solve it for y; what didyou get, please?
