What does a negative times a negative equal? What does a negative times a positive equal?

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

-*-=+ +*-=-

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Negative multiplied by a negative is a positive. A negative times a positive is a negative. You can remember this by the 2 negative signs making a positive sign, and the other just memorize.

I think of it as negative = opposite so if you have two negatives, you have two opposites which cancel each other out in a way

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

-*-=+ +*-=- +*+=+ rule of signs

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

the opposite of a positive is a negative so negative times positive = opposite of positive = negative
