Now, you can find the Area of a rectangle by using the formula:

$$Area = length \times width$$

The main people have with this type of problem is that this shape has an odd form. It's actually two rectangles attached to each other. There isn't a formula that I know of for solving such a shape.

So what you have to do is break the shape down. Find the two rectangles, separate them, then solve for the area of each rectangle and add them together. Then you have the area of the shape!
