Which sentence from Washington Irving's short story "The Devil and Tom Walker" is an example of indirect characterization?

OpenStudy (kittiwitti1):

Where are the sentences?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"Tom's wife was a tall termagant, fierce of temper, loud of tongue, and strong of arm." "Tom was as rigid in religious as in money matters." "Tom Walker, however, was not a man to be troubled with any fears of the kind." "Her husband was continually prying about to detect her secret hoards."

OpenStudy (kittiwitti1):

I would say the first one since it's comparing Tom's wife to a "termagant". Whatever that is. xD
