OpenStudy (mouth4war):

Once out in space, the space shuttle needs to ________________ to keep going in the same direction at the same speed. A) turn off its engines B) continue to fire its engines C) fire its engines intermittently D) gradually slow the engines down im thinking B but im not really sure?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's actually "A". "An object at rest tends to stay at rest and an object in motion tends to stay in motion unless acted upon by an unbalanced force." (Newton's first Law) So you would turn the engine off, because it will keep moving in the same direction at the same speed. If you chose "B", it would mean that the space shuttle would actually be accelerating.

OpenStudy (mouth4war):

oh! okay i get that i think. thank you:)
