hardy weinberg question :) medal

OpenStudy (math2400):

In humans, wet or dry earwax is inherited in a simple Mendelian fashion. Wet earwax (W) is dominant over dry earwax (D). Create 20 cards (tear up sheets of paper) with 16 labeled Wet (W) and 4 labeled Dry (D). This represents the gene pool of a particular population. Each card represents an allele. a) What is the frequency of each allele in this population? W_________, D_________ If the next generation has 20 individuals and the population was under Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, what is the expected number of individuals with WW, WD, and DD genotypes for the next generation (don’t worry about rounding to whole numbers)? WW_______ WD_______ DD________ What is the expected number of people with wet and dry earwax in this population? Wet_______ Dry________ For a. i got W as 80% and D as 20% is that right?

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

it uses a simple algebra, there are like seven criterion to meet

OpenStudy (math2400):

for the second one would i take p^2=.8 so p=0.89 so WW would be 89%?

OpenStudy (math2400):

and then q^2=.2 so q=.45 which would make DD 45% so 2pq= 2(.89)(.45)=0.80 making WD 80%?

OpenStudy (math2400):

idk if i'm doing this right, any help would be really appreciated!!

OpenStudy (math2400):

@abb0t would u be able to help me?

OpenStudy (math2400):

@pooja195

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes tthats right can i have medal

OpenStudy (math2400):

for sure? this is graded >< idk about the second part

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let me double check brb

OpenStudy (anonymous):

did you study

OpenStudy (math2400):

yes i did but i wanted a second opinion

OpenStudy (math2400):

@myininaya could u please help me if u have a second? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

heres your best bet @nincompoop giver her your opinion i say yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you answer this question for me Mark the items if they were products that Europeans wanted from the Americas. A. indigo and cochineal B. animal hides C. silver and gold D. grapes and olives E. cacao beans and sugarcane

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Math2400 @nincompoop

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

Items? Do you mean multiple choices?

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

If there are multiple choices then the answer would be A, B, C, and E.
