OpenStudy (twizttiez):

Which function has the greatest starting value? A. x y 1 −3 2 −8 3 −13 B. y = 3x – 8 C. 8x + 4y = 16 D. http://static.k12.com/calms_media/media/1523000_1523500/1523242/1/95f0fcfdba86aa93f7a0cd83672eb495ee04ca98/MS_IMC-1400831-161107.jpg

OpenStudy (kamibug):

The starting value just means the y-intercept! Can you find the y-intercept of each option? :)

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

A is 5 idk for the rest though

OpenStudy (kamibug):

For A, 5 is the slope, actually. ^_^ So to find the y-intercept just add 5 to -3. :)

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

Oh ok so 2 but what do i do for the rest?

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

Sorry for being blunt and thanks so much for the help

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

You there?

OpenStudy (kamibug):

No worries! :) B is in slope-intercept form y = mx + b where b is the y-intercept. C is in standard form so we just have to solve it for y to get it in slope-intercept form. Subtract 8x from both sides then divide both sides by 4. D is just a graph so we can see the y-intercept. It's where the line crosses the y-axis.

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

Jeez this is complicated :o

OpenStudy (kamibug):

B --> The y-intercept is -8 C --> 8x + 4y = 16 Subtract 8x from both sides. 4y = -8x + 16 Divide both sides by 4. y = -2x + 4 The y-intercept is 4. D --> The line touches the y-axis at (0, 2) so the y-intercept is 2. So we have the starting points 2, -8, 4, and 2. Which is the greatest?:)

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

So C?

OpenStudy (kamibug):

You've got it! ^_^

OpenStudy (twizttiez):

Yay thanks so much big hug
