I need some help Ted is looking for a plot of land. He wants the length, l, to be twice the width, and he wants at least 800,000 square yards. If w represents the width, which of the following represents this situation? 800,000 < w^2 400,000 < w^2 800,000 < 2lw 400,000 < lw^2
It tells you he wants the l to be twice the width.
so A and C are eliminated
Well think of it.. In the problem, it says 800,000 so right away, you should cancel out the ones that aren't that number.
oh so B and D
leaves me with A and C
twice of I and W my answer is A
Yes! Now when it says "twice" of something, that means it's going to be multiplied by 2, and since in this case its l is twice the width...the equation needs to have 2l. Which one has that?
i believe that the answer is B is makes since to multiply that twice to get 800,000
The area of the plot of land is length times width. If the length is twice the width, then l = 2w and the area is 2w^2. Since he wants at least 800,000 square yards, the inequality is as follows. 800,000 < 2w^2 400,000 < w^2
Hm, but that's 400,000 and he wants AT LEAST, meaning nothing less then, 800,000. So right there, B and D are canceled out.
i took a chance and chose B
Well to me, the correct one was C, considering it has everything the word problem tells you..
you were right when it came to twice as much thats what i missed in the problem so times that it wouldve been B
But its "at least" 800,000 meaning it cant be anything lower then that.. that alone, helps you cancel out.
