Quick question for mean do you add outliers or no?

Directrix (directrix):

If the question is to find the mean of a set of data, then you use all of the numbers in finding the mean.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you leave the outliers in there?

Directrix (directrix):

{ 1, 4, 100} 100 is clearly an outlier but the mean of these three data points is (1 + 4 + 100)/3

okay thanks

Directrix (directrix):

>>so you leave the outliers in there? Why would you want to take them out. They are part of the data set.
