A ball sitting on the top of a table has potential energy but no kinetic energy. How do potential and kinetic energy change as the ball falls off the table to the floor? A. Both its potential energy and its kinetic energy increase. B. Both its potential energy and its kinetic energy decrease. C. Its potential energy decreases, and its kinetic energy increases. D. Its potential energy increases, and its kinetic energy decreases.

OpenStudy (one098):

Well tell me one thing, what is potential, and what is kinetic energy.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

potentail energy-the energy of a body or a system with respect to the position of the body or the arrangement of the particles of the system. kinetic energy-the energy of a body or a system with respect to the motion of the body or of the particles in the system.

OpenStudy (one098):

Okay so from what you just told me, which do you think it is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

from what i see i think it is C

OpenStudy (one098):

Well if its on a table, a table is flat, so its not tilted or steep.. so I think the potential energy does decrease. What do you think? @pooja195

pooja195 (pooja195):

yes that is correct :)

OpenStudy (one098):

Alright, thanks! @pooja195

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you both

OpenStudy (one098):

My pleasure, anytime! ^_^
