2. Justify each step of the proof. Conjecture: If 2(x2 + 5) = 60, then x is 5 or –5. Thanks for the help:)

OpenStudy (jskhupmang):

divide both sides by 2 first

OpenStudy (jskhupmang):

what do you get?

OpenStudy (jskhupmang):

you get x^2+5=30

OpenStudy (jskhupmang):

now subtract 5 both sides

OpenStudy (jskhupmang):

you'll get x^2=25

OpenStudy (jskhupmang):

in order to get rid of the square you need to square root it. So square root both sides

OpenStudy (jskhupmang):

x= +/-5 hope it helped you.

ya kind of but what is each step called like the first one would be distributive property, what would the rest be?

OpenStudy (jskhupmang):

Just say division property if it is division or sqaure root property if you sqaure root. Is that simple. I think its better than leaving it blank. :P
