DivineSolar (divinesolar):

What is the value of x in the solution to the following system of equations? I honestly dont know how to solve this. x − y = −3 x + 3y = 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What method and if you have tried any please present it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

try simple elimination

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

Well im not quite sure how to solve this.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

multiply the first eq by a suitable factor so as to make the coeff. of one of the variable equal to the coeff. of the same variable in the other equa. in this case multiply the first equa by 3 so as to make the coeff of " y " equal now simply add them u will see that u get an equa in only x in this case x=-1 now put -1 in any of the equa get the value of y

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

is x -1? @HelpingHawk

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

y would be 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes :)
