The north and the south were complete opposites of each other. There were many differences and arguments between the two. They had economic, social, and political cultures that made them differentiate. The disputes lead to many battles and even the civil war. There was also battles that would have made or break our country. The north and the south economy were alike but different also. The south was based off of agriculture while the north was based off manufacturing. The south had varies crops they used for different sources. They had cotton, tobacco, sugar cane, indigo, and rice. These were known as cash crops. The north had their factories. The north hired immigrants from Europe to work in their factories. The factories would use the cotton to manufacture textiles. Cotton was the most important crop in the north and south. The social differences were more different than the economy. The North’s religion and education were available to basically anyone. There were churches in every city. For education, secondary school wasn’t an option for both boys and girls. College was strictly for high class and wealthy people. The north was mainly a free willing environment compare to the south. The south revolved everything around wealth and upper class. If you weren’t a plantation owner with kids and wanted them to have an education you could forget that. The only way to get a child education was to be upper class or own plantations. Politically the south and north were the most opposite in my opinion. The southerners were Democratic. They favored Andrew Jackson and James K. Polk. The north was more of a liberal union. They would be what’s known today as Republican. The north fought to save the nation and keep it as a whole but the south wanted to succeed. This caused war between the two unions. The differences of the North and South had led to great outcomes. The north kept a strong front and without that we would be a completely different country today. From the economic, social, and political differences we still came out with positives for the country. Many inventions were made and many changes, all to construct a better whole nation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is there any error or anything?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i believe that you should put analyze your examples a bit more. i could also suggest that you can switch the first sentence and talk about the background details of the era/period on which you are talking about.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I feel like you list a lot of facts, but you don't really explain it. But your facts are very well chosen. maybe you can discuss in more depth of andrew jackson and james polk, and you can talk about what they did that was different from the north

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright this was my rough draft. Ill talk about james and jackson more. Is there any more ideas where i need to

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you could talk about slavery. slavery is a huge theme during the 1800s

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay thank you
