on problem set 3 I keep seeing (numbers) for example 2A-1 & 2A-10. I found the notes that were linked to on an answered question for 2A-1 which helped a lot, but I still cant quite figure out exactly what those numbers are referring to. Is there an equation sheet or something that I am missing?
Are you asking about this page: http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/mathematics/18-01sc-single-variable-calculus-fall-2010/unit-2-applications-of-differentiation/part-a-approximation-and-curve-sketching/problem-set-3/ ? The problems are given by the link (see "Applications of Differentiation (PDF)" )to a pdf file listed below the section labeled "Problem Set" i.e. http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/mathematics/18-01sc-single-variable-calculus-fall-2010/unit-2-applications-of-differentiation/part-a-approximation-and-curve-sketching/problem-set-3/MIT18_01SC_pset2prb.pdf
Yes, I understand that. My question specifically refers to when they ask you to use a specific formula for the problem. In 2A-1 they ask you to use (2), and in 2A-10 to use (13). I figured it out by looking at the solutions but I would rather not do that in the future. So my question is, is there a system of numbering the formulas in the notes? Is there a sheet of equations that I haven't found yet? Basically, on future problem sets is there a way to figure out what formula they are specifying without having to look at the solutions.
