OpenStudy (hockeychick23):

A family's phone number qualifies as what kinds of data? A. Discrete and numerical B. Discrete and categorical C. Continuous and numerical D. Continuous and categorical E. None of the above

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for sure its discrete (i explained cont to u in last qs )

OpenStudy (hockeychick23):

yea i thought it was b i just wanted to double check

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so discrete means counted

OpenStudy (hockeychick23):

yea, so am i right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u can count family members , and give it a value while categorical defines levels like classes for example

OpenStudy (hockeychick23):

@jim_thompson5910 can i get your opinion please?(:

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you are correct, it's a discrete categorical variable

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:|

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

it's discrete because you can't have half a number (it's countable) it's categorical because each number is like a label or a name

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

a phone number isn't a number that you can do math on, so it's not numerical

OpenStudy (hockeychick23):

ok thats what i thought, thanks!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait sorry i though it was family members number xD
