That gets the reader interested in what your writing about. Next thing I recommend you doing is planning out your essay in the red light, yellow light, red light, yellow light, red light format. Also in your conclusion synthesis and don't restate what you wrote, this may offend the readers intelligence.

Always restate your main topics, if you are in a Middle school your teacher will recommend this.
If that's what your teacher wants you see then you must write it down, because there is basically only that one person reading your paper.
You want to go into detail and give examples.
The more you give details and examples the more your going to make the story clear for the reader.
Also, you want to show not tell. This also goes along with the details. The reader(s) don't want to hear, the butterfly was amazing.
They want to hear the colors, The butterfly was lime green and fluttered around like a small angel.
Use transition words, Never use the same word more then 4 times. (this does not include words like the, and, etc..)
Wrap it all up. Restate what all you have talked about.
