Can someone please help me?? I'll give medal and fans!
what's the question?
The same one from earlier... I have a math report to do on one of my family members and it says that I need to do it too by writing a system of linear equations and solve it by graphing. Problem: If you can figure out the exact coins that I found, you can have the money. If not, I'll keep it myself. Here are your clues. There are twenty coins altogether. There are only pennies and nickels. And the total value of the coins is forty-eight cents. I need to write a system of linear equations and solve by graphing. Check your answer By the way I'm not actually giving money that's just part of the problem.
So what do you guys think?
@k_lynn can you help me?
I'm not sure how to solve this. Maybe @bibby , @Compassionate or @sammixboo can help you.
you can write 2 equations of the form \(ax+by=c\) for example: x+y=15 x+5y=30
What about these @bibby x+y=20 x+5y=48
that looks good
when do I get my money
It was just a part of the problem and even if I was giving out money, I wouldn't have any to give, cuz I'm broke!
it's just 48 cents spare some change for an old soul?
Can you help me turn the equations into a system?
do you mean solve the system so that you can find out the exact number of each coin?
Well kind of
It's asking to create a system of linear equations and then to solve by graphing.
I can't remember how to do anything but elimination in that case, but this link should help. solving by graphing means finding the point where 2 equations intersect http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=x%2By%3D20%3B%20x%2B5y%3D48&t=crmtb01
Thanks that did help.
um that last text sent by itself btw.
that was weird
the site gets pretty buggy sometimes
Can you help me explain the system and the graph.
the first equation establishes that all of the coins we have add up to 20\( x+y=20\) then we decide which variable represents which value coin with \(x+5y=48\) that means that we've decided that x is the pennies and y is the nickels.
Ok and then can you explain to me the purpose of the graph @bibby
it just is maaaaaan existence needs no purpose existence for the sake of existence is alright brah
the graph represents the individual lines. the point where t hey intersect is the solution to the system.
Thanks for all the help @bibby! :D
