He called the Constitution a "covenant with death" because it protected slavery. He wanted his anti-slavery societies to be closely aligned with the Republican Party. Garrison was opposed to admitting women as members of his anti-slavery societies. After slavery was abolished, he wanted his societies to work for civil rights.
