My grandfather saw an amazing amount of technological change in one lifetime. He was born in 1874. That was before George Custer died at Little Big Horn. He traveled around with a horse and buggy when he was a child. He used a kerosene lantern to light the house at night. The light bulb was invented a few years after he was born. The car was invented about 20 years later. The airplane was invented before he was 30. People listened to the radio and watching movies when he was a middle aged man. In 1927, Lindbergh flew an airplane across the Atlantic. People started watching television broadcasts when he retired at age 75. Computers were as big as houses and weighed many tons. Jet planes carried thousands of people across the ocean every day. Neil Armstrong walked on the moon in 1969. Armstrong's spacecraft was guided by computers. My grandfather watched him do it on his television.
