Help with solving real life applications with trig function

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

A 25 ft ladder leans against the side of a building and the angle between the ladder and the building is 22°. Find the vertical distance from the ground to the point at which the top of the ladder touches the building. Round your answer to the nearest tenth.

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

so were trying to find the opposite i believe?

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

so would I use sin(22)*25?

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

I got 9.4

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

@ganeshie8 did I do this correctly?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

there is a mistake with the angle

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

you're given ` the angle between the ladder and the building is 22`

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

but in your diagram you're assuming the angle was betwee ladder and ground, which is wrong.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

it should be like that, right ?

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

oo Yes

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

so this changes the opposite and adjacent

OpenStudy (darkbluechocobo):

so now this mean that the adjacent is |dw:1421774952776:dw|
