It is just testing your conceptual understanding. Think of the acceleration as 20 metres per second per second. In other words, the velocity is changing by 20 metres per second every second.

so too safely make it into the pool, cleo/clare need to travel 16 m in 3.03 seconds = horizontal speed of 5.28 m/s
