SOMEONE HAAAAAAALP.MEDAL AND FAN.A company that manufactures storage bins for grains made a drawing of a silo. The silo has a conical base, as shown below: https://vvsd6966-vvagpeap-ccl.gradpoint.com/Resource/6114359,67D,0,0,0,0,0/Assets/74823_53c6cc7e/image0024e68b84b.jpg What is the total volume of grains that can be stored in the silo?

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

*confused* why does that picture's base look no circle.. or why does it have two heights? o-o @Data_LG2 save me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know ;w;w;w;w;w;w;

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

@mathstudent55 @freckles help? :3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

o-o

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can't read that DX

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm confused. @Data_LG2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol sorry, I'll just try to write it, give me a sec.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

o-o

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@sleepyhead314 he left ;w;

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

I'm sorry but I really don't know how to do this problem :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

*eyes widen* OHHHHHHH

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Step by step help?I ish new to dis.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first, solve for the volume of cylinder second, solve for the volume of cone third, combine the two volumes :) i think sleepyhead can do it from here :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i really need to go :) see ya

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

thank you data! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay I do what now first?

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

here is the information you have been given: diameter = 4 therefore radius = 2 then Height of cylinder = 8.5 and Height of cone = 13 - 8.5 = 4.5 then you have the equations Volume of Cylinder = pi r^2 h Volume of Cone = (1/3) pi r^2 h

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So for the cylinder it is pi 2^2 8.5 And cone is pi 2^2 = 4.5?

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

cylinder is right :) try the cone again

OpenStudy (anonymous):

pi 1/3 2^2 4.5?

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

mhmm :) right then simplify both

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Um. Cylinder 106.81 cone 18.84?

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

yes, then add them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

125.65?

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

I got 125.66 but yeah :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

58π ft3 40π ft3 23π ft3 36π ft3 are my choices

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

oh right they didn't want you to multiply the pi in so 125.66 divivded by pi is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12.74

OpenStudy (anonymous):

40.01

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

mhmm 40

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yay i still have one more

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

;-;

OpenStudy (anonymous):

xD
