What is -4 to the power of 2

OpenStudy (softballgirl372015):

-4 to the power of 2 is the same thing as -4 times -4, which equals 16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That sounds right, but the program said it's wrong @Softballgirl372015

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there is no parenthesis on the -4

OpenStudy (softballgirl372015):

then that is the same thing as -1 times 4 to the power of two, so you only square the 4. The answer is -16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks :)

OpenStudy (softballgirl372015):

np:)
